Given the COVID 19 situation, India has acted quite swiftly in initiating one of the world’s biggest lockdown in history, to help control the spread of the virus. The central and state Governments, along with the entire medical staff, police personnel deserve applause for the fabulous job they are doing, to control the spread of the virus.
The Indian healthcare infrastructure isn’t strong enough compared to the western peers and with a population as big as ours, it adds a lot of pressure to the already frail system. Along with the test kits and PPEs, there’s also a rising demand for quarantine facilities, isolation wards and testing labs, across the huge landscape of India which houses very diverse population.
As of today, India has over 1 Lakh isolation beds and over 11,500 ICU beds across the country, with over 7500 active cases at the moment and the number surging at around 800 cases/day, despite the lockdown.
The demand for these health facilities is increasing by the day and there’s an urgent need to also prepare for the future, in case the number of cases surge, a very likely scenario. The facilities we’ve at present are going to be vastly insufficient and it could be catastrophic.
The need of the hour, to help the healthcare infrastructure fight COVID 19, is speed and agility, while ensuring quality, across the country. This fast paced development cannot happen through conventional means of brick & mortar buildings. They take a lot of time and space to be put up and are immobile. Once built, they cannot be modified either and the entire material becomes a waste once the need is fulfilled.
The only way to ensure a fast paced construction that meets the growing demand is by using Modular Construction Technology, getting structures of steel built rapidly. These buildings are built very fast and could be used for multiple purposes, as the necessity demands. More importantly, they are mobile and can be moved from one place to the other – a perfect solution that solves many a major problems for the health sector.
Volta Green Structures are experienced in steel construction, having worked on 100+ projects across sectors, globally in the last 5 years. In view of the current scenario, the teams at VGS have brainstormed and designed much needed solutions, bridging the above gaps and solving problems.
To help fight this raging pandemic in India by equipping the Indian healthcare system with the necessary infrastructure, the models are designed for each of the following purposes:
- Quarantine facilities: Buildings with multiple rooms, designed with precision keeping the need in mind, with steel. They are strong and durable and can also be moved from one place to another, depending on the demand. For example, if there’s no more a need in Mumbai for a quarantine facility, it can be moved to Pune or a rural area where there could be a necessity.
- Isolation Wards: There’s a need to identify and isolate people who could be infected with the virus, in order to control and prevent community spread. Identifying the hotspots and putting up isolation wards is necessary. With our model, these wards can be built in bulk and easily transported to the hotspots and set up in no time anywhere across India. There’s no more a need to waste time in planning and construction.
- Testing Labs: Testing is one place where India has been lagging behind, when compared to the rest of the world, with as few as 0.4 tests per 10,000 population. There’s an immediate need to build up testing infrastructure, with labs coming up in many tier 1 and tier 2 cities as well. The model developed by Volta Green Structures helps put up the structures quickly and if necessary in certain areas, changed to quarantine facilities as needed.
- Rest facility for police personnel: During such times of crisis, we must not forget those who work hard behind the scenes, for us to remain safe. The police personnel throughout the country have been really sweating it out to ensure people remain safe. Resting facilities for these are of utmost importance, especially in this hot summer season, with rising temperatures.
The rest facility model developed by Volta Green Structures can easily be built up in bulk and moved to the necessary places.
It is a responsibility of the steel construction industry to come up with viable solutions, with all the resources and tech available at our disposal. All of the models above solve the major issue of the demand & supply gap in the quickest possible time. Furthermore, these models are movable and reusable, which means that there’s no wastage of funds anywhere.
These modular structures are multipurpose and multi utility buildings that can be converted or modified to suit some other necessity, once the current requirement is done with and even moved to another area as per the need.
Volta Green Structures is looking forward to collaborate and work together with other companies in order to come up with practical and quick solutions to the existing problems and thus, helping boost the Indian healthcare system and fight COVID 19.
