With the rise in popularity of metros as a prime mode of transportation in the tier-1 cities in India, the government began the expansion of metro in tier-2 cities. One such project is Nagpur Metro, which Voltagreen Structures stands as a proud contributor of. Seeing the expertise and experience of Voltagreen in steel construction, the clients placed their trust in us to complete the construction of 3 prime stations for the project from designing to erection. The 3 stations are:
- Khapri Station
- New Airport Station
- Airport Station
The projects were executed by a team of 20 professionals, consisting of personnel from design, execution, procurement, quality control and sales. Since it was a time bound project, there were a few challenges along the way which our team successfully overcame and completed the project within the stipulated time.
- The structural steel components were manufactured at the factory and erected at site. This gave precision to the construction and therefore zero dimensional deviation. Tie members and additional structures were added in the design to attain maximum strength and sustainability.
- In Khapri and New Airport Metro Stations our design team convinced the architects to change the design of the columns, which were originally designed as Box Section to I Section. This was suggested to achieve efficiency in terms of cost, material used and fabrication time.
- At the Airport Station, the columns were designed as box sections keeping the aesthetics in mind as desired by the client and the consultant.
- Also, manual calculations during the design as well as design changes were made by the design team of Voltagreen Structures, keeping in mind the need for better structural stability, like the base plates of the columns due to insufficient beam pedestal spacing.
- Overall, while maintaining the strength requirements as well as sustainability, all three metro stations were designed and executed keeping in mind the architectural beauty as was originally desired by the clients.
The projects were successfully completed within the timeline and budget requirements, even when changes and additions were made to the original designs. This was of course only possible due to our highly skilled team. The use of structural steel not only proved to be efficient, but also helped in speeding up the construction of the metro stations. The fabrication of components in the factory made it easier to assemble the parts at site while also taking care of the accuracy in the construction.
